Jet Li And Jackie Chan Team Up For "Forbidden Kingdom" - Not Original But Not Bad Either

Very seldom does this happen that 2 great actors come together for a film such as this. Jackie Chan and Jet Li must have had to shelve a whole lot of ego to share the limelight with each other. Not to mention working with American The Lion King's'' Rob Minkoff and "Young Guns''' John Fusco. It also incorporates fighting choreography by Woo-Ping Yuen ("Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon,'' "The Matrix'') and cinematography by "Crouching Tiger's'' Peter Pau. It's like an action-movie goers paradise if you like the kung fu films of the past.

Reviews have mentioned that it is not the least bit original or that it's as good as "Crouching Tiger," there are multiple plot questions that may need straightening out as well but the fact that it has all the greats of Chinese movies in there with Jet Li and Jackie Chan playing multiple roles in one film. They all just make the movie worth watching. Read a review from Mercury News right here. Below is a synopsis as well:

The film's a fantasy about a young Boston chop-socky fan, Jason (Michael Angarano). He gets in trouble with some local toughs, is knocked unconscious and wakes up in a misty, mystical Middle Kingdom holding a magic staff. He's supposed to get that to the Monkey King (Li who, like Chan, plays two characters here), who's been trapped as a stone statue in the court of the evil Jade Warlord (Collin Chou) for 500 years.

Does that make sense? If not, never mind; it's hero-quest time. Jason hooks up with possibly immortal wino Lu Yan (Chan, who also plays the lad's wizened Chinatown DVD connection). Lu drops some pretty hilarious training exercises on the strange kid as they travel, along with vengeful young hottie Golden Sparrow (Liu Yifei), through forest and desert to the Warlord's mountain stronghold.

Along the way, a mysterious Silent Monk (Li's main role) steals the staff, then joins the quest for his own reasons.
