Young Actress From "Slumdog Millionaire" Almost Sold by Dad

It's amazing what people do for money. After Rubina Ali starred in the award-winning film "Slumdog Millionaire," the father of 9-year-old star Rubina Ali, offered to sell her for $300,000 to undercover reporters from Britain’s News of the World, the newspaper reported.

That's just sad, he's quoted with saying "I have to consider what's best for me, my family and Rubina's future," to the News of the World journalists, who posed as a wealthy Middle Eastern family interested in Ali’s illegal adoption.

Rafiq Qureshi, who lives in a Mumbai slum with Ali, says he is only trying to do right by his daughter and family by attempting to cash in on her fame - that's a bunch of B.S. Isn't it supposed to be the other way around? He supports her! He is the parent!

According to MSNBC Qureshi criticized the “Slumdog” production, claiming that he and his family got nothing from Ali’s role in the movie. That is not accurate: in addition to the salaries for the film, trusts for Ali and for fellow young star Azharuddin Ismail were established. Part of the trust is used to pay their tuition at an English-language school, for emergency medical costs and living expenses, and the remainder of the trusts are available to Ali and Ismail after they turn 18.

He's such a money grubber

Slumdog Millionaire - Oscar Winner, What's it about?

I haven't seen Slumdog millionaire yet, but because it won the Oscar's I certainly am. Anyway I started my research straight away. So what's it about?

It's about this kid who's about to win "Who Wants to be a Millionaire." One question away he gets dragged off on suspicion of cheating. This is where his story begins. He then tells of his adventures in Mumbai (where he grew up) and the apparent answers to the almost impossible questions just take form. In the end, it's just about life and love. It's cliche to think it's about a girl yet again. But it also reminds us how simple really life can be and how complicated we can make it.

That's the plot I guess, but if the Academy Awards think it's a great movie then I've got to go see it for myself.

Will he win a million dollars? Will he see the girl again?

And the Oscar Went to...

And here are the noted winners of the 81st Academy Awards

Slumdog millionaire won the following:
  • Best Picture
  • Best Directing
  • Best Music
  • Best Film Editing
  • Best Sound Mixing
  • Best Cinematography
  • Best Writing (Adapted Screenplay)
Now I'm going to have to watch this movie, because it has won so many awards - it's got me interested.

Best actor: Sean Penn in Milk
Best actress: Kate Winslet in The Reader

It's been said Kate Winslet has been nominated so many times it's about time she won. I wouldn't put it past her I guess. She's a pretty good actress

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button received accolades for Best Make-up, Best Visual Efffects and Best Art Direction. Many of my office mates say it's a beautiful movie. A masterful depiction of life, even without having to endure the beauty that is Brad Pitt

Best Supporting Actor: Heath Ledger

I knew they'd give the best supporting actor award to Heath Ledger. It's a given once you die. But in fairness to him, he was awesome in The Dark Knight, much better than Batman I have to say

Best Supporting Actress: Penelope Cruz

First they say for a Spanish actress, she's hot so I don't mind
